Leonard A. Hall

Leonard A. Hall, 92, died Wednesday, Aug. 26, 2020, at his home.

Born in Oswego, N.Y., he was the son of the late Anna and Leonard Hall. After high school, he enlisted in the United States Navy. Upon discharge, he enrolled at Clarkson University, in Potsdam, N.Y., where he graduated with a degree in mechanical engineering.

He joined Carrier Corporation in 1951 after his marriage to Elizabeth W. (Betty-Jo) Walsh. He started in Research and Development in Syracuse, N.Y., was transferred to the Bryant Division in Tyler, Texas, He later transferred to Indianapolis, Ind., where he served in several positions. He was transferred to Syracuse, N.Y. to head the Energy Systems Division.

Upon retiring to Pisgah Forest, in 1985, he volunteered with Literacy Volunteers of America to do major fundraising. Later with the International Executives Service Corp., he served in the Commonwealth of Dominica, and also served two three month-programs in Zimbabwe, southern Africa.


He is survived by his daughter, Pamela Sweeting, of Brevard; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, where he served as the chair of the finance council. He played a role in facilitating the church’s transition from Caldwell Street to its present location.

He enjoyed reading and politics. He was also an avid golfer.
