Promises Kept?

Friends who continue to support President Trump do so because they believe “he’s done what he said he would do.” I don’t see it.

He promised to build 450-500 miles of fencing along the southern border. To date, 93 miles have been completed, of which 90 replaced existing structures. (Obama completed 649 miles of new border wall.)

He promised Mexico would pay for the wall. Since a Republican Congress would not fund it, Trump proposed taking the money from the military budget. A court prohibited his doing so.

He promised “the first thing” he would do if elected was fix health care because “that’s easy.” By Jan. 19, 2020 (before the coronavirus) seven million Americans had lost health care under Trump’s administration.

On that same first day, he promised to ask “my generals” to come up with a plan within 30 days to destroy ISIS. Neither the plan nor the destruction have occurred.

He promised to “hire all the best people,” but his administration has provided a revolving door to disenchanted hirelings. By May, 2020, 415 people resigned or were dismissed under fire, a record-setting rate. Five have been convicted of crimes.

He promised to “bring back clean coal.” People are still laughing.

He promised to sue all the women who were going to take legal action against him. No cases have yet been filed.

He promised to show his tax returns.

And most famously, he promised to be “too busy working for you to play golf.” Of his 1,290 days in office, he has visited golf courses 281 times at an estimated cost to the American taxpayer of $138 million.

I feel like one of the signers to the Declaration of Independence listing the 27 grievances committed by George III against the American people.

I look forward to my independence from Mr. Trump in November.
