Sheetrock has been delivered to the Lake Toxaway Community Center’s small building, where renovation work is proceeding.
Jack Watson and Steven Earl were on cleanup duty after the electrical, plumbing, mechanical rough in and spray form insulation were complete. Sheetrock was delivered on Sept. 17 and installation began on Sept. 21. The new window was delivered on Sept. 21 and when the sheetrock is complete the new air conditioning units will be installed.
We are excited about the progress and, hopefully, the building will be available for rent next spring. The great volunteer efforts of Watson, Earl, Chris Craft, Joe Owen, Bobby Richardson, Hale Campbell, Coy Jones, Joe Dan Galloway, Rich Donoghue and Jason Shelton have been critical for the progress on this renovation.
Lake Toxaway Reunion Canceled
The Lake Toxaway School Reunion has been canceled this year due to COVID-19. Since their reunion last year, the following classmates have passed on: Curtis Banther, Lucy Tinsley Bryson, Martha McKinney Galloway, Jerry Owen and Virginia Price Penland. We extend our sympathy to their families. If you know of anyone who has been omitted, call Jonnie Fordyce at (828) 329-4063, so the records can be updated. Mark your calendars for the 2021 reunion, which will be held the last Saturday in September.
With the new guidelines from the state we are able to open our playground. Please remember that no dogs are allowed in the playground area and we ask that you pick up your trash. Thanks so much in keeping this area clean for all the area children to use. We also have new nets at the basketball hoops and appreciate the generous donation. The weather is perfect for using these great facilities, and we hope to see you out there soon.
The WNC Communities and Dogwood Health Trust grant is helping boost Western North Carolina census numbers. Currently, our area is lacking in the numbers who have participated in the census. It is critical for a variety of funding and other issues that we step up. Gay Owens has taken the reins to assist in boosting the numbers and will be in front of the community center from 10 a.m. to noon every Saturday in September.
You can contact Gay at 966-4359 to set up an appointment if these times are not convenient. Each participant in this enrollment will have their name placed in a raffle to win a small handmade clay bear created by a local artist.
The Lake Toxaway Bargain Barn is open every Friday and Saturday. The Bargain Barn will be open every Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Masks and social distancing are required.
We hope to see everyone next year for our Friday night events. We miss seeing everyone on Friday nights and look forward to seeing everyone in the spring. Stay safe and let us know how you are doing by checking in on our Facebook page.
Lake Toxaway building rental is closed until further notice. For more information, call Pam Owen at (828) 553-0373.
