River Rerouting Aims To Reduce Flooding, Contamination

A section of the West Fork of the French Broad River near Lake Toxaway is being rerouted by the N.C. Division of Mitigation Services.

The section is located mainly on private property and partially within Pisgah National Forest. A 25-acre cattle farm has been operating on the property for decades.

Charles Adams said the farm has been in his family for around 70 years and is now owned as a part of a family trust.

Adams said he and the other family members in the trust sold the property containing the stream to the state in a conservation easement, and the state is now rehabilitating it...
