Last updated 10/7/2020 at 4:57pm

James David Shelton Jr., 67, passed to his heavenly home unexpectedly Feb. 2, 2020.

He was born on Oct. 6, 1954, in Transylvania County to the late J.D. Shelton Sr. and Joyce Shelton.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Cindy Shelton; two children, Kimberly Corona; son, David Shelton; three grandchildren, Adrian Shelton, Gloria Corona and Carmen Lopez; great-granddaughter Kaylania Michelle; sister, Sherry Shelton, and son, Bobby Shelton, and many loved aunts, uncles, cousins and Buster, his special companion.

Jimmy loved his family and the great outdoors, especially if he had a fishing pole or gun in his hand. He always loved to hear the sound of the dogs baying on a coon, bear or rabbit while hunting. He enjoyed deer hunting with his son and buddies in South Carolina.

He had a big heart and smile. Saying “hello” to everyone and starting a conversation, he never met a stranger. Jimmy had the gift of the “gab.”

He began his career with the Department of Transportation in Henderson County and worked his way up the ladder to be supervisor of maintenance in Transylvania County. He retired after 30 years of service.

He loved to visit flea markets, yard sales and thrift shops anywhere he could find a bargain.

Jimmy visited all the grocery stores and knew all the butchers by their first names. He enjoyed cooking for his family. But, he didn’t know how to make small meals. He would cook enough food to feed a small army.

A celebration of his life will be held Saturday, Oct. 17, at 3 p.m. at Forge Valley Event Center on N.C. 280. Please come and share any stories you may have of Jimmy. We will be following the State and CDC’s recommendations of social distancing, and masks and santizer will be provided.
