Friends Of Silvermont Cancels 2020 Pumpkin Fest And Readies For Bigger And Better Event In 2021 – Brevard, NC

The Board of the Friends of Silvermont voted to cancel the 2020 Pumpkin Fest in August, primarily due to the risks and uncertainty brought on by the Covid-19 pandemic. According to Friends of Silvermont President, Erik Rasmussen, “We delayed as long as we felt we could to make this decision. However, without an improving trend in the pandemic and no clear idea of the restrictions that would be in place in October, we felt the prudent course of action was to cancel. A big part of that decision was driven by concern for the safety of our most valuable resource, our volunteers.”
Pumpkin Fest is the primary fundraiser for the Friends of Silvermont so the cancellation of this well attended and much-loved event is both a blow to the community and to efforts to maintain and upgrade Silvermont Park and Mansion.
In response, the Friends of Silvermont has begun making plans to put on a bigger and better Pumpkin Fest in October 2021. The Board has decided to hold the event over four weekends (Friday and Saturday) in October 2021 instead of the usual three. They will also be adding one completely new display and several additional enhancements. The 2021 Pumpkin Fest will have more live actors in the displays and roaming the grounds.
The Board of the Friends of Silvermont asks that if you are interested in becoming involved in the design and construction of the new display and enhancements or in participating in next year’s event, please contact the Friends of Silvermont by visiting the website http://www.silver mont.org, Pumpkin Fest Facebook page, http://www.facebook.com/pumpkinpatchrevenge or contact the FOS lead on publicity and outreach, Maury Bandurraga [email protected]
