United Community Bank will host a free “Shred Day” event on Wednesday, Oct. 14, to help protect citizens against identity theft. Community members are invited to bring confidential files to shred at no charge from 9 until 11 a.m.
“Identity theft and fraud have been on the rise in the recent years,” said Brittany Marcum, branch manager of United Community Bank’s downtown Brevard office. “Making your personal information less accessible is a simple line of defense that everyone should consider.”
The Shred Day will be hosted at United Community Bank’s downtown Brevard office, located at 160 W. Main St. Individuals may bring up to five banker’s boxes of documents to shred. The event is not open to business shredding. X-rays, microfilm and CDs are not acceptable for shredding. For more information, or for a full list of unacceptable items, contact United Community Bank at (828) 862-5265.
