The Transylvania Times -

Please Vote In Local Races

As important as our federal and state level elections are, please remember how many of the things that affect us here as Transylvanians will be decided strictly in our local elections; the school board and the Board of Commissioners most importantly.

From data found on the Board of Elections website, about 70 percent of registered voters cast a ballot for president and other Senate/House seats, both federal and state in the 2016 elections.

However, by the time they got past all the judge seats and other state positions that many don’t honestly pay much attention to, only 45 percent voted for those very important county seats. We need to do better this year. There are so many big issues facing these boards. We need excellence in the people we put into those seats. How fortunate we are that many excellent people have put their hands up to do this thankless work. The decisions they will make shouldn’t be based on party affiliation. I would go so far as to say I wish both boards were totally non-partisan.

Perhaps if you can’t spend the time to know about the candidates running for the middle of the ballots seats, (state offices and judges) consider just scrolling to the end and voting in the county elections. There are numerous Zoom and virtual meetings being held asking the candidates their positions and The T. Times is doing a great job covering those events if you don’t get to watch virtually.

Please vote all the way down the ballot.
