The Tales of Hanty Branch

When I ventured up the hill off Greenville Highway to see Hanty Branch and its owner, Andrew Hamilton, I thought I was going to find out more about the historic home. What I left with was the story of the house, and many more interesting tales about the family who has long dwelt in it.

The house was built as a summer home by Hamilton's great-grandfather, John Samuel Verner, in 1903. Verner was a politician and lawyer from Oconee County, S.C., who later settled in Columbia.
