Vote, Women Of Transylvania

There were at least three generations of women who fought, seriously fought, for women’s right to vote. I think about these women and how proud they will be when we exercise our right, our responsibility to vote.
Susan B. Anthony said, “To think, I have had more than 60 years of hard struggle for a little liberty, and then to die without it seems so cruel.”
More currently, Ruth Bader Ginsburg is quoted as saying: “Women belong in all places where decisions are being made. It shouldn’t be that women are the exception.”
Sometimes, we think that our vote doesn’t matter or perhaps that political party is the most important factor when it comes to who wins an election. According to the Transylvania County Board of Elections, in the 2018 Transylvania County Commissioner election, a margin representing less than 10 percent of registered voters, separated the winner from the “not winner.” And if we all vote, no party is guaranteed a win. As of Sept. 26, 2020, most Transylvanians are registered Unaffiliated (43 percent). Republicans represent 32 percent and Democrats 24 percent.
Your vote matters. Let’s honor the many women who trail blazed on our behalf. In fact, let’s honor ourselves by casting a vote this election season. Think about the issues, do some research as to who will represent you best, and vote, women of Transylvania.
