The following briefs are from Thursday, Nov. 5, 1970, edition of The Transylvania Times.

Democrats swept six out of eight races in Transylvania County in Tuesday’s general election. Congressman Roy A. Taylor scored the biggest victory in this county as he swamped Asheville furniture dealer, Luke Atkinson. The vote was 4,921 for Taylor and 2,678 for Atkinson.

For State Senate from the 33 Senatorial district, Dr. Carl D. Killian upset the incumbent Herman H. West by a vote of 3,930 to 3,325.
