BOARD of COMMISSIONERS

Seven candidates – three Republicans, three Unaffiliated candidates and one Democrat – are seeking three seats on the Board of Commissioners. With 15 of 15 precincts reporting, Republican Teresa McCall leads with 9,803 votes, followed by Republican Larry Chapman, with 9,629 votes, and Republican incumbent Jason Chappell, with 9,306 votes. Democrat David Siniard is coming in fourth, with 8,043 votes. In fifth is Unaffiliated incumbent Page Lemel, with 7,329 votes. In sixth is Unaffiliated incumbent Make Hawkins, with 6,811 votes. In seventh is Unaffiliated candidate Carl Conley Jr., with 3,978 votes.

Republican incumbent Jake Dalton, who was appointed to the seat, and Democrat Doug Miller are competing to see out the term on the Board of Commissioners of Will Cathey, who died earlier this year. With 15 of 15 precincts reporting, Dalton has 11,484 votes to Miller’s 8,348.

BOARD OF EDUCATION

Five candidates – two Republicans and three Democrats – are on the ballot competing for three seats on the Board of Education. With 15 of 15 precincts reporting, Republican incumbent Tawny McCoy received 11,861 votes, Republican Richard Kimsey Jackson received 10,337 votes, Democrat incumbent Ron Kiviniemi received 9,737 votes, Democrat incumbent Alice Wellborn received 9,424 votes and Democrat Anna McCall received 8,618 votes.

State Races

N.C. Rep. Jake Johnson, a Republican, and Democrat Sam Edney are competing for the District 113 seat. With 15 of 15 precincts reporting in Transylvania County, Johnson received 10,990 votes to Edney’s 8,903. With 32 of 32 precincts reporting in the district, Johnson received 30,215 votes to Edney’s 20,500.

N.C. Sen. Chuck Edwards, a Republican, faces Democrat Brian Caskey for the District 48 seat. With 15 of 15 precincts reporting in Transylvania County, Edwards received 11,748 votes to Caskey’s 8,121. With 67 of 67 precincts reporting districtwide, Edwards received 67,805 votes to Caskey’s 47,305.

District Court

Republican Gene Johnson and incumbent Democrat Mack McKeller are running for N.C. District Court Judge District 29B, Seat 2. With 15 of 15 precincts reporting in Transylvania County, Johnson has 10,134 votes to McKeller’s 9,682. Districtwide, Johnson received 53,184 to McKeller’s 39,909.
