Lake Toxaway News

The North Toxaway Baptist Church Food Bank will be open this Saturday. It serves the Lake Toxaway, Sapphire and Quebec communities during the COVID-19 pandemic. The food bank is located at 51 Slick Fisher Road and is open from 10 a.m. until noon every other Saturday. The food bank is operating as a “drive thru” food distribution. They ask all customers remain in their vehicle instead of coming inside the food bank to “shop” for items. The volunteers will sign you in from your parked car. Then, they will bring out the boxes of food and place them in your vehicle. Even if you have never used the food bank before and/or you do not qualify as low income but are temporarily out of work due to the current situation, you are welcome to come and receive food until the pandemic is over and/or you have returned to work.
Our community has grieved the passing of Eddie Chapman in early October. Eddie’s music filled the community center for many years with beautiful sounds of country music. The community center is working on placing Eddie’s photo on our tribute wall. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family.
Please let us know of any Thanksgiving events that still may be happening in our community, so that I can post it in our article next week. You can call me at 862-8836 or email [email protected] We wish everyone a very Happy Thanksgiving.
Closing All Buildings
We will be winterizing and closing all the Lake Toxaway Community Center buildings for this year. Thank you to everyone who assists with this task. We appreciate all your hard work in making sure our buildings are secure for the winter months. For information about renting, call Pam Owen at (828) 553-0373.
Monthly Board Meeting Moved
The monthly board meeting will be moved to 7 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 17. The location has still to be determined. An email will be sent out, and we will put the exact location on our Facebook page.
Work has been done to improve the Wi-Fi for the community center’s large building. It will allow for a better connection in the large building. Wi-Fi is available outside the large building when the building is closed. The closer, the better. Look for ToxawayC.C. in your settings.
1950’s Christmas Photos
I am volunteering at the Transylvania Heritage Museum and working on this years’ Aluminum Christmas Tree exhibit. We are looking for Christmas photos from the 1950s. If you have any and would like to share, please call me at 862-8836 or email [email protected] We have been fortunate to get ones of the Brevard parades during the 1950s but are looking for Christmas family-type photos from the period. We also have photos of the Ecusta Echo (from the 1950s) and the Christmas Parades available for sale in note cards, which would make great Christmas gifts, so stop by the museum. The exhibit is now open from 1 to 7 p.m., Thursday through Saturday, except Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, through Jan. 9.
It has been mentioned many times that our track is open for walking, running and other exercise as long as you follow social distancing guidelines. It’s a wonderful place to get in your much-needed outside time. The playground is open and a good place to bring your children and grandchildren, as we have had some wonderful weather this fall. Please follow the guidelines addressed at the playground.
