New businesses are coming to The Shoppes at Brevard, located off the Asheville Highway and the strip mall constructed in 2019 and already occupied by an AT&T store and a Starbucks.

A Jersey Mike’s Subs, a sub sandwich shop; a B&B Co., a women’s clothing and apparel boutique; and a Salsarita’s Fresh Cantina have received zoning permits from the city.

The Jersey Mike’s Subs and B&B Co. are zoned for being up-fitted within The Shoppes at Brevard, which is part of a city of Brevard’s planned development district (PDD) that includes the Holiday Inn Express, Bojangles and Cook Out.

Jersey Mike’s Subs is an American submarine sandwich chain head-quartered in New Jersey.

The Jersey Mike's franchise has almost 1,592 locations open, and about 124 more in development across the United States.

“B&B Company received its permit on Sept. 11, so they have a year to begin construction, but it is a new retail space, so that’s where they are in that permit,” said Kaitland Finkle, who is a City of Brevard planner and assistant zoning administrator. “It’s a change of occupancy permit, so there was not a lot they were changing, but it is the first use of the space.”

B&B Co. is a store front and online women’s clothing boutique featuring home decor and furniture remakes, according to its website.

“B&B Co. was founded and created by an aunt and niece duo team in November 2019, originally as Market on 64,” according to its website. “Deborah Blythe and Melissa Brown are located right here in the heart of WNC, Brevard, N.C.

“The name B&B Co. is sentimental due to a family business started by Debbie’s father and Melissa’s grandfather – and it’s also the initials of their last names (Brown & Blythe).”

Salsarita’s Fresh Cantina will be under construction in its own space.

“Salsarita’s was issued on July 2, and they have a yearlong period to commence making the improvements that we permitted, and, so, it could be that they finish in a year,” Finkle said.
