Nora Brown Mathis Israel, 100, of Brevard, passed away Monday, Dec. 21, 2020.

She was born July 14, 1920 to the late Rob and Clearcie Brown in Jackson County. She was the oldest of two brothers, Chester and Wendall, and six sisters, Ima, Edith, Etter, Minnie Sue, Katie, and Mary Ellen, all preceded her in death. Her husband, Clarence Isarel also predeceased her.

She never met a stranger. She loved to talk, sew, cook, and try new recipes. In the Summertime you could find her working in vegetable and flower gardens, followed by breaking beans and shucking corn on the porch.

She had a special roommate at The Oaks named Mary. There she enjoyed giving candy to anyone who came to visit, but would keep the applesauce all to herself. She will always hold a special place in so many lives and will be missed by all those who loved her. One hundred years, what a wonderful life.

Surviving are her five children, Robert Mathis, Jake Mathis, Beverly Wilson, Avonda Jones, and Rachel Courson; eight grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.

Graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2020 at Blue Ridge Gardens of Memory.

A celebration of life will be planned and held at a later date.
