Good News On Broadband

The current pandemic has shown the importance of widespread broadband access in rural communities and the inequalities that result when that access is not available. Transylvania County Schools estimates that at least 10 percent of its students lack such access. As a result, they cannot learn virtually when schools close down to either viral outbreaks or inclement weather.

In an effort to provide more funding for rural communities, the state, with money from the CARES Act, has allocated $30 million for 18 projects in rural areas. Our local broadband provider, Comporium, will receive $4.2 m...
