James Michael “Mike” Sentelle, 76, of Pisgah Forest, passed away Saturday, Jan. 9, 2021, at Transylvania Regional Hospital after an extended illness.

He was born on Aug. 28, 1944, in Barnstable, Mass., to Harry G. Sentelle and Cleo Chastain Sentelle while his father served in the U.S. Navy. He was preceded in death by his parents. He graduated in 1962 from Brevard High School, attended Clemson University and worked for Jerry R. Brown Construction for over 30 years.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Kay Huntsinger Sentelle; brother, Gregg Sentelle (Cindy); sisters, Dianne Gholson and Pam Whitener; one niece and three nephews.

He was an avid NASCAR fan. He loved to fish, garden and discuss current issues and quilting. After his retirement, he became a skilled quilter. He loved life, traveling and just chilling at home. He also leaves behind his beloved cats, Mardi and Roscoe. Also left to cherish his memory besides his family are many friends, adopted nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 13, 2021, in the Moody-Connolly Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Michael Clay of Chattanooga, Tenn., officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Interment will be in Blue Ridge Gardens of Memory. Pallbearers will be Alan and Kyle Justice, Chris and Chuck Burgess, Marty Heller and Josh Bartholomew.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a favorite charity.
