Todd H. Bol, the creator of the "Little Free Library (LFL)," built the first library in 2009 in Hudson, Wis., inspired by the spirit of his mother, and a quote from Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

"'What would you if you died tomorrow?' someone had asked him, and he said, 'I would plant a seed, because from that seed would come growth and change,'" Bol said in a Tedx Talk in 2013.

Bol, who died in 2018 at 62, launched a global movement through the nonprofit LFL, with the goal of strengthening reading in communities by fostering LFLs around the world.
