The Brevard/Transylvania Chamber of Commerce has announced its 2021 Board of Directors. The board was recently finalized with the election of five individuals for the 2021-2023 term, including newly elected Shelia Carland (Comporium Communications) and Brenda Miranda Valenti (Southern Quality Company), and returning members Glenda McCarson (Blue Ridge Community College), Angela Owen (Truventure Enterprises) and Nory LeBrun (Historic Toxaway Foundation).

In addition, Hunter Trombetta (Fisher Realty) joined the Board in late 2020 to fill a vacancy.

They join a slate of board members currently serving three-year terms, which includes Courtney Mason (Domokur Architects), Amber Webb (First Citizens Bank), Joan Van Orman (Focused Marketing), Brittany Marcum Cohn (United Community Bank), Deborah Tibbetts (Smart Start of Transylvania County), Jeff Joyce (Brevard College) and Kathy Mlay (Bright Owl Insurance). There are also individuals who serve in an ex-officio capacity representing key partners of the Chamber of Commerce. They are Jaime Laughter (Transylvania County), Aaron Bland (city of Brevard), Josh Hallingse (Transylvania Economic Alliance), Jeff McDaris (Transylvania County Schools) and Nicole Bentley (Heart of Brevard).

Joyce will be taking over the reins from Mason, who just completed her term as board president.

“It is an honor to be a part of the chamber, which has advocated for the people of Transylvania County since 1923,” Joyce said. “I am proud of the work that was done last year in the face of the pandemic and am ready to work on the challenges and opportunities that face our businesses and community."

The new Board of Directors officially began its 2021 service at the chamber’s Board of Directors meeting on Jan. 21.
