NAACP Encourages Getting Vaccine

On Monday morning, Transylvania Public Health administered 30 vaccines to members of the local black community at Bethel "A" Baptist Church in Brevard.

Among those who received vaccinations was Tommy Kilgore, president of the Transylvania NAACP, who acknowledged that there is some vaccine reticence in the black community because of the Tuskegee experiment between 1932 and 1972 in which black men infected with syphilis were told they would be treated for the disease by the then Public Health Service.
