James Edwin “Jim” Hawkins, 83, of Brevard, passed away Sunday, Jan. 24, 2021.

He was born July 25, 1937, in Transylvania County to the late James Lamar Hawkins and Kathleen Poor Hawkins. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his twin brother, John Herbert Hawkins, and brothers Thomas Avery Hawkins and Terry Glen Hawkins.

He was a veteran of the United States Air Force, a former Exalted Ruler of the Brevard Elks Lodge, a member of Dunn’s Rock Masonic Lodge, a 32nd Degree Mason, and was a member of Brevard-Davidson River Presbyterian Church.

He loved playing golf and flying airplanes, and had been a volunteer fireman for the Brevard Fire Department.

Survivors include his wife, Linda Harbin Hawkins; one son, Ed Hawkins and wife, Wanda, of Greer, S.C .; one granddaughter, Karlee Hawkins Ware and husband, Tyler, of Suffolk, Va .; and one great-grandchild, Phoenix Avery Hawkins.

A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 6, 2021, at Blue Ridge Gardens of Memory. Military honors will be conducted by the Transylvania County Honor Guard.
