In the fall of 2018, I was hiking in the Dolomites in northern Italy.

My husband opted for an easier hike that day, but I took off with an alpine guide and two members of our Backroads group on an alpine adventure.

During the 12-mile, high-altitude hike, Dr. Chris Dickson, from Greensboro, asked me if I had ever heard of Blue Zones and the Power 9.

I had not.

Chris and his daughter had developed a first-grade curriculum incorporating lessons learned from the Power 9.
