Want a fun reason to get outside and explore your community? What about discovering interesting facts about our county while staying safe at home? The Brevard/Transylvania Visitor Center has just the thing as the 2021 Visit Local celebration adapts to the current times.

"Like previous Visit Local events, we want our local folks (not just visitors) to get to know Transylvania County and our wonderful Visitor Center better," said Sally Burnett, Brevard/Transylvania Visitor Center coordinator. "For 2021, with pandemic safety protocols in mind, we're giving everyone opportunities to explore and learn more about the treasures and gems in our area on their own."

There are two ways to participate in Visit Local 2021. The Hidden Gems Scavenger Hunt takes participants all over the county discovering hidden gems and special places in the area. The Transylvania Treasures Trivia Quiz encourages contestants to research and learn more about our special community from the safety of their own home.

The contests begin Thursday, Feb. 11, just in time to provide a perfect activity for Valentine's weekend. Details to play, including the contest instructions, the Scavenger Hunt locations and Trivia Quiz questions, will be available at http://www.explorebrevard.com/visitor-center-2/ on Thursday. The Scavenger Hunt checklist and Trivia Quiz answer sheet, which are also the contest entry forms, will be available in three different ways:

•pick them up at the Brevard/Transylvania Visitor Center

•pull them out of the Feb 11 edition of The Transylvania Times

•download/print them from the http://www.explorebrevard.com/visitor-center-2/website

Participants can enter one or both contests. The deadline to enter is noon on Monday, March 1. Two winners from each contest will receive a $50 gift certificate each to spend at any Chamber member business.

If at any time there are questions about how these contests work, please contact Burnett at (828) 883-3700 or [email protected], or stop by the Visitor Center at 175 E. Main St. in Brevard where volunteers and staff are happy to point you in the right direction. Get ready to VISIT LOCAL 2021!

Visit Local is part of the Think Local Transylvania initiative, a collaboration between the Brevard/ Transylvania Chamber of Commerce and the Heart of Brevard created to support small local businesses and nonprofits, foster county-wide togetherness, celebrate our unique place, and grow a thriving and resilient economy for everyone.

About The Visitor Center

The Brevard/Transylvania Visitor Center is located at 175 E. Main St. in downtown Brevard and is operated through a coordinated effort between the Brevard/Transylvania Chamber of Commerce and Transylvania County Tourism. Even though safety protocols have limited access to and operating hours of the Visitor Center (Monday-Friday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. and Saturday, 10 a.m.-2 p.m.), visitors and residents, alike, can benefit from excellent area resources and helpful volunteers. Additionally, the Visitor Center is now the "headquarters" of the White Squirrel Institute.
