Brevard City Council recently decided on the sale of downtown real estate for the development of a boutique hotel. There are benefits to a development in the heart of the city, but the construction of a hotel downtown also highlights and exacerbates two interconnected problems – the availability of affordable housing for workers and the explosion of short-term rentals.
