Local Attempts Mountain Challenge For Charity

If Myers looks tired in this photo, it's because he took it after lap 7 of his charity campaign on Old Bald while taking a break in his car from the freezing cold and rain. By then he had ascended around 7,000 feet of elevation gain.

It's midnight, February 5, and as freezing winter rains began rolling through the mountains the temps plummet into the low 20s. Where many had just gone to sleep, local hiker and The Transylvania Times contributor Jacob Myers was taking his first steps into the frigid nighttime rain to attempt a mountain challenge for charity.

This is the second year in a series of Myers' self-imposed birthday challenges. In 2020 the challenge was to ride and run as fast as he could to reach 22 waterfalls for his 22nd birthday, but the game this year involved elevation; 23,000 feet of elevation to be speci...
