Brevard First UMC

This Sunday marks the beginning of the season of Lent on the Christian calendar. Traditionally, for many Christians these 40 days leading up to Easter are an opportunity to renew their faith journey and to seek ways to draw closer to Christ. And each year, the journey starts with Jesus in the wilderness of temptation.

We hope you will join us this Sunday in worship as we begin our journey together.

First UMC continues to worship virtually on Sunday mornings. You can “listen” to our service over WSQL (102 FM and 1240 AM) or “watch” us on Facebook (

Two special worship experiences will be offered next week, both by way of live streaming on Facebook. Tune in on Monday at 6:30 p.m. for another Celtic-themed service of prayer, music and scripture based on the Transfiguration passage in Mark 9:2-9. Then on Ash Wednesday, also at 6:30 p.m., we begin the season of Lent with a service of ashes and repentance.

Lutheran Church Of The Good Shepherd

Feb. 21 marks the First Sunday of Lent, when we consider God’s covenant with Noah based on the Gospel of Mark 1:9-15. Floods are devastating disasters. We fear such annihilation at the hands of torrential downpours. Yet God gives a rainbow as a sign of promise. As Christians, we are baptized in water. Like Noah and his family, we are saved through the waters. We, too, are saved through the waters of new birth and life in Christ. Join us Sunday for online worship with the Rev. Kenneth Albright at

“Out of the Dust” is the theme of a Lenten series held via Zoom each Wednesday at 7 p.m., starting Feb. 24. Using readings from the Psalms of Lament, hymnody, teaching and Lectio Divina, participants will be invited to reflect on what it means to express their true feelings and longings to God, and place trust in God’s desire not only to hear, but to act from a heart of steadfast love. Out of the dust, beautiful things spring forth. Such is the hope of our journey through Lent to the glory of Easter dawn.
