Eunice Carol Smith James passed away Feb. 20, 2021.

An active resident of Brevard since 2001, she was involved in the Brevard-Davidson River Presbyterian Church, and volunteered with Safe’s Attic and other local nonprofit organizations.

She was born in 1934 in Wyandotte, Mich. Her husband, Richard James, preceded her in death. She is survived by her daughter, Karen Swing, and son-in-law, Randy Swing, of Hendersonville. Additional family members include her brother and sisters-in law, Chuck and Terry James, and several nieces and nephews.

She was loved by all who knew her and respected for her quiet compassion and wisdom.

The family wishes to thank the staff of College Walk in Brevard, the memory care staff of Heritage Hills in Hendersonville and Lynn Halsey, caregiver, for their amazing love and care during her final years.

Due to COVID-19, no memorial service is planned at this time.

In Eunice James’ honor, donations may be made to Brevard-Davidson River Presbyterian Church in Brevard, or to John C. Campbell Folk School in Brasstown, N.C.

Eunice wrote, “I have been greatly blessed by God, family, friends and many people who have touched my life. I thank them for being an important part of my journey on this earth.

“Think of me as you walk in the forest, watch the clouds, sail the waters, and plant a garden. I love the great outdoors.”
