The Family Place strengthens families and helps build resiliency through support, education and community building.

With so many changes over the past year, the need for support and connection is magnified even further. The Family Place of Transylvania County offers a variety of programs and activities through stationary locations (Brevard and Rosman), the mobile playgroup sites, as well as virtual options.

"We are still here and available for you thanks to our philanthropic partners, board and staff members," said Executive Director Erin Drew.

If feeling isolated due to COVID-19, due to moving to the area or simply need a fresh space to explore with your little ones, perhaps a visit to The Family Place will help you connection, get support or help that you need, like it did for Kadie Sanders.

Upon her arrival to town during the winter of 2018, she found herself searching for a community of friends. Although she had the company of both her partner, Todd, and their daughter, she strained to make new connections outside of home.

Like many in her position, she visited local parks and playgrounds, went to the library and attended yoga classes, all in the hopes of forging genuine bonds with others.

Despite her best efforts, lasting connections were seemingly out of reach. Once she arrived at The Family Place, though, she finally discovered the welcoming community she had been seeking.

"A 20-minute drive to the Rosman Family Place leads to family-like warmth that I desperately need," said Sanders. "This open-door place has fed my daughter and [me] physically, mentally, socially and emotionally. This haven has undoubtedly kept us afloat through tenuous challenges. The Family Place is authentically supportive. It is this authenticity that brings us back each time."

The Rosman location is Sanders' personal hub, where she and her daughter spend time together to ward off the sense of isolation she felt moving to a new area. She is a great example of how sometimes it takes a few tries to find a group, but when you do, it feels right. The Family Place always welcomes newcomers.

Connecting to The Family Place is offered both virtually and in-person. We provide programs and drop-in play for caregivers and parents, with a variety of specialized chat groups, including, but not limited to, Grandparent Chat, Dad's in Action, Navigating Needs and Foster Care Chat.
