When Dawn Ellis was a child, she didn't have a lot, but her parents did make sure she and her sister had a big Christmas, even going so far as wrapping socks separately to give them more to open.

Today, Ellis just wants the same for children in need, so she buys thousands of dollars worth of toys for the Salvation Army to distribute to families who can't give much to their children for Christmas in Transylvania and Henderson counties.

"It's like being a secret Santa," Ellis said. "A lot of people don't know I do this, and I really don't do it for recognition. I do it for the kids."
