New Gorges Campground Set For Fall Opening – Transylvania County, NC

By fall, a new $3.5 million campground in the 7,709-acre Gorges State Park in Sapphire should be open to the public.

"We have a new site, RV site and five cabins," said Ranger Alyssa Coburn, who noted the new campground sits near the Rainbow Falls area.

Construction began this past November. Coburn said that based on the construction of similar campgrounds in other state parks by Brantley Construction Co., the cabins will be "relatively primitive," with no bathrooms or a kitchen, but will have a full-sized bed in one room, four bunk beds in the second room, and heat and air.
