The Transylvania Community Arts Council (TC Arts) has announced the appointment of Kathy King as executive director.

"Throughout the interview process the committee found her to be wise, articulate, passionate and kind. She will listen and respond to our artistic community and community at large with fresh ideas while valuing and preserving the high-quality programs and services for which TC Arts is known", said Cindy Rehm, board president.

King earned her Bachelor of Science (English, secondary education) and Master of Arts (English) degrees at the University of Southern Mississippi, and her Juris Doctorate at Tulane University School of Law. After practicing law in Dallas, Texas, for almost 20 years, King and her husband, Cory Kale, relocated to Brevard.

In Brevard, King has been actively involved in the arts community through volunteering at the Arts Council, teaching digital photography and digital scrapbooking to both adults and children, and photographing numerous events. She has taught at both Blue Ridge Community College and Brevard College, and through the Arts in Schools and summer camps programs at the Arts Council.

King said, "I am excited to join the Transylvania Community Arts Council as executive director and look forward to working with the board and art community as we deal with and move beyond the challenges of the past year. The Arts Council has played an important role in the creative community for almost 40 years, and I have seen firsthand the impact that local arts and the Arts Council has on both children and adults in our community. Together, we can build a stronger organization and a stronger and more vibrant creative community that will continue to benefit the Brevard/ Transylvania area."

Rehm, a Brevard artist and arts educator, is the newly appointed president of Transylvania Community Arts Council. Billy Smith, artist, gallery owner and art teacher, will serve as vice president. The new leadership team is committed and looking forward to working in collaboration with the board of directors and staff to advance the vision and mission of TC Arts.

In addition to Rehm and Smith, the board members are Sue Hershey (secretary), Chris Price (treasurer), Jack Christfield, Derrick Gardner, Courtney Mason, Stephen Rapp, Caren Stewart and Brian Stretcher, Ph.D.

The mission of the Transylvania Community Arts Council is to enhance the quality of life in Transylvania County by celebrating and nurturing the creative spirit of artists, youth and individuals throughout the county. For more information, call (828) 884-2787 or go to
