God’s Way Food Pantry

We are no longer able to allow after-hours pick-up. The food pantry is open every other Saturday from 10 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. The next food pantry is April 17. Drive-thru only. If you are sick or unable to come, please call 884-7793 to have someone to pick up for you. Blessings to David, Lydia and staff.

If you’ve been to the Balsam Grove Community Center to access WiFi, recently, you may have noticed a big boost. We now have 200 Mgbs download and upload, if you’re using a 5G device. Even without 5G, you will get around 20 Mgbs download and upload, which is more than twice as strong as it used to be. Thanks to a Land of Sky grant headed by Sara Nichols, and with additional help from Comporium, we were able to upgrade our equipment to the new strength. Also, the signal extends much farther in all directions, so you don’t have to be right next to the building. We would like to thank everyone involved, especially Danny Bottons, a retired tech expert who helped the locals navigate the entire process with his expertise. We’d also like to thank past and present county commissioners for their help in the process, from when they first provided public WiFi service for free through to these new upgrades. It took a lot of commitment from many people for all of this to happen, and it is just the first step in getting high-speed internet to our rural area of Transylvania County.

The Balsam Grove playground at the community center is open at this time. Just be sure to please practice safety by wearing a mask and social districting, and be sure to wash hands before entering the playground and after leaving the playground. Thank you.

If you have donations for your yard sales, please contact an officer of the community club to meet you at the community center to put it in the building. Items get ruined if they are just dropped off at the door, and then we have to pay to have it hauled off. We appreciate your cooperation. Calls may be made to Bernice Powell at 884-6058 or Carol Gardner at 884-6247 or any other officer.

Those celebrating a birthday this week are Rebecca Owen and Derick Fairchild, April 8; Jackie A. Starcher, April 9; Edward Kratzert, April 10; and Jackie A. Holden, April 11. We wish all of them a happy birthday.
