In The Bible Mission

The Mission family held a sunrise service on Easter morning hosted by the Rev. Pete Lee and his wife, Coleen. They then held a regular service at 11 a.m. in the Cathey’s Creek Community Center, where they meet every Sunday morning.

Six Generations

Flossie Leona Barton, who will be 92 years old in July, has a new great-great-great-grandchild, Killian Tyler Lee Jones, born on Feb. 15. The family includes the mother, Haylee Talkington; grandmother Cassandra Talkington; great-grand-mother Pamela Gaddy; great-great-grandmother Ida Rogers; and great-great-great-grandmother Leona. Congratulations.

History Of Cathey’s Creek Project

We are still looking for stories, pictures and information for the project. The community has a lot of history and some very interesting folks. Some of the topics are churches, farming, logging, country stores, home folks and surviving wars, neighbor helping neighbor and building a community.

Birthdays

Happy birthday to Gary Hill on April 11. He will turn 60. My mama would say that birthdays did not affect her too much except for the ones with a big zero in them. Kim Brown Holshouser will celebrate her birthday on April 15.

Easter: Family Time

I know I have told this before but it is a good memory, Easter Sunday was family time, I would bake a cake of cornbread, pack frying pans, potatoes, and everything else needed to fix a meal on the creek bank. We loaded the kids and fishing poles and headed up the creek. My husband would fish while the kids would do kid things, I would fry potatoes, and the little speckled trout that he caught and that would be our Easter meal. There is something about cooking over an open fire and eating outdoors. We enjoyed those times.

The Window

Just saw a big yellow butterfly outside the window this morning. Spring is here. My sister-in-law just posted on social media that the hummingbirds are back. She was so excited. The grass is growing along with the weeds. My son-in-law worked for hours last Saturday mowing and weed eating.
