Democratic Party

The Transylvania County Democratic Party invites Democrats and Progressives to attend their County Convention on April 10. The convention will feature guests N.C. Representative John Ager as well as Brevard City Council members Maureen Copelof and Mac Morrow, who are up for re-election this year. Delegates to the district convention and resolutions will be voted upon. Embroiderers’ Guild

The Laurel Chapter of the Embroiderers’ Guild of America (EGA) will meet on Thursday, May 6, 2021. This hybrid meeting will be in-person plus a Zoom event. The meeting is open to all guests who wish to attend. Email [email protected] for zoom information.

The May program will be show-and-tell. Members will present their needle art projects created during the pandemic. In addition hand stitched bookmarks will be collected for Henderson County Public Library.

The chapter meets at 10 a.m. at Cummings United Methodist Church, 3 Banner Farm Road in Etowah/Horse Shoe.

Project Linus

The Western North Carolina Chapter of Project Linus is continuing to create and donate handmade blankets to area children thus providing a sense of security and warmth to children in crisis.

Over the past 22 years the local chapter has donated over 78,000 blankets in 13 Western North Carolina counties.

Anyone interested in creating crocheted or knitted blankets, quilts or no-sew fleece blankets, contact Ellen Knoefel at (828) 645-8800 or [email protected] or Pat Crawford at (828) 883-8746 in Transylvania County.

Western Carolina Community Action

Western Carolina Community Action, Inc., a nonprofit human services agency administering local, state, and federally funded programs for low-income, the elderly, and children, will hold its Board of Director’s monthly meeting on Thursday, April 8, 2021. The meeting will begin at 6 p.m. Due to COVID-19 the meeting will be held virtually through Google Hangouts and can be attended via computer or smartphone. WCCA has developed its Streamlined Annual PHA Plan (HCV Only PHA’s) for the Housing Choice Voucher Program for fiscal year 2021-2022. A public hearing will be held on Thursday, April 8, 2021, at 6 p.m. in conjunction with WCCA’s regularly scheduled Board of Directors meeting Due to COVID-19, the meeting will be held virtually through Google Hangouts and can be attended via computer or smartphone.
