On May 1, 1999, my mother-in-law took me bird watching in Doodletown, N.Y., near the site of an old ore mine once owned by Thomas Edison. At the time, I didn’t realize this would be the first and only Cerulean Warbler I’d ever see. This beautiful songbird is just one of 200 bird species in North Carolina that are under threat and depends on contained clean air, water and habitat. Clean energy is vital to protecting clean air, water and habitat for birds and preserving the places they need, and energy storage will be a key part of our transition to cleaner energy.
