C.S. Lewis states in the introduction to his book, “The Problem of Pain,” that “When pain is to be borne, a little courage helps more than much knowledge, a little human sympathy more than much courage, and the least tincture of the love of God more than all.”
Lewis is hinting that our response to pain is crucial if we are to heal. Much knowledge and striving to rid ourselves of pain paradoxically magnifies our physical or emotional pain.
