Club's Fund Drive Boosted By Donation Pledge

This month, the Cindy Platt Boys & Girls Club is getting a boost in its efforts to honor teachers as part of its annual fund drive.

A California woman who grew up in the Southeast has developed a special affection for the local organization and has pledged to match the first $25,000 in donations during the drive's teacher appreciation focus in May.

Her name is Edwina Jenkins Johnson, of Sunnyvale in Silicon Valley, just south of San Francisco, Calif. She's doing it, she said, to honor her late husband, Earl, a musician, educator and businessman, who once taught music. He died last N...
