Rotary Runs Returning

The Rotary Club of Brevard is returning, albeit tentatively, to a "normal" 5K running calendar in 2021.
The plans are for the White Squirrel 5K and the Firecracker 5K to be held at 8 a.m. on May 22 and July 3, respectively.
There will be some number limitations, however, with in-person runners set at 100 initially and in pods of 10.
The Flight of the Vampire will also return at 9 a.m., Oct. 30, with the hope it will be open running. The children's fun run will return as well.
All the races will begin at the Depot Park on Railroad Avenue in Brevard.
Late last year and earlier this year, thanks to participants' support, the Rotary Club gave out more than $25,000 in funding to a number of organizations; built a soccer field for El Centro; managed the COVID-19 emergency supply procurement; got RotaryTRAIN underway and managed the United Way handover; and had the Book Bus ready to be "painted" for Rosman High School.
The Elves program for the 350 care home residents has continued, including supplying eight televisions, and surpassed funding totals last year with the Salvation Army, polio and Alzheimer's funds. Rotary also helped locally with crisis funding, coats and blankets, along with partnering with Blue Zones and providing scholarships for Blue Ridge Community College students.
In 2021, the Rotary Club is looking at using the race sponsorship funds to support the schools and students by way of teacher challenge grants, designed to expand the students learning opportunities.
The club's sponsors include the Pisgah Health Foundation, Pardee, Truv-enture and the City of Brevard.
