Zoning Is Not The Problem

As co-sponsor of Senate Bill 349, State Sen. Chuck Edwards has blamed government regulations for a lack of affordable housing, stating, “We are at a crises point in North Carolina, where government restrictions have choked the housing supply.”
There is no question the prices are getting higher. According to the real estate section in the May 6 edition of The Transylvania Times, from March 2020 to March 2021, the median sales price in the county increased 26 percent, from $323,000 to $407,5000. The average sales price increased 34 percent, from $350,025 to $470,153.
