Chamber Releases Key Priorities To Send To Decision Makers

Editor’s note: The Brevard/Transylvania Chamber of Commerce used a member survey, along with conversations with members and discussion by its Board of Directors, to create a list of key priorities to share with the decision makers in the community and at the state and national levels.
Workforce Housing: Attainable housing is vital to a healthy workforce and a healthy economy. We support efforts to increase our housing inventory, density and affordability.
•Support funding and increase opportunities for attainable housing through the N.C. Housing Finance Agency.
Economic/Workforce Development: We value and support economic and workforce development initiatives that increase quality of life, job growth and investment in the region.
•Reform the Economic Incentive Tier program to more accurately reflect incentive needs more accurately in our entire region and disentangle the tier system from other non-economic development related programs.
•Advocate for new advanced manufacturing sites and buildings to meet needs of identified target markets.
•Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on aligning land use ordinances with the community’s target markets.
•Champion coordinat-ion efforts to help align business workforce needs with education and career prep training leading to quality career oppor-tunities.
•Support legislative action to reduce carbon emissions, modernize the grid, and keep energy prices as affordable as possible to continue powering North Carolina’s competitive economy.
Infrastructure: We support expanding, enhan-cing and protecting the infrastructure necessary to keep the businesses and people of Transylvania County connected and thriving.
•Support local gover-nment’s applications to state and federal resources to expand infrastructure, spec-ifically affordable broadband deficits.
•Support enhancement and development of hike/bike path systems.
•Champion efforts for development of water/sewer and other infrastructure for new business.
Sustainable Natural Resources: We value our incredible natural resources and the positive impact they have on our community. We believe that we all must work to ensure that they are here for future generations.
•Champion the individuals and organizations with initiatives to mitigate user impact.
•Support efforts to foster healthy access to and safe, responsible use of public lands.
Diversity and Inclus-ion: We are stronger as a community and a chamber when all our voices are heard and respected. We champion all efforts to ensure a diverse and inclusive environment that equitably serves all in Transylvania County.
•Work to build more diverse representation on area boards and organizations.
•Deliver a program of work that engages and supports the growth and development of minority-owned businesses and serves all communities across Transylvania County.
Health Care: We value and support healthcare initiatives that increase access to quality healthcare, including physical, mental and behavioral health services.
•Advocate for strong health care infrastructure and access to quality health care within Transylvania County.
•Reduce barriers to affordable health.
