Nearly 5,000 Pounds Of Trash Removed From River

Last Saturday’s “Upper French Broad River Clean- Up 2021” was the 29th year of an event that is hosted by Headwaters Outfitters.

Volunteers removed 4,980 pounds of trash from the river, including roughly 35 tires.

This year’s cleanup was done in honor and memory of Sara Cathey, who died last fall.

Cathey was a lifelong advocate for the river and a litter warrior.

She used her platform as a Rosman High School teacher to instill the importance of caring for natural resources.
