Adult Day Care Facing Uncertain Future

Transylvania County's only adult day care service is in danger of closing, according to Ranessa Thomas, program director for Transylvania Adult Day. The program, which started out as K.O.A.L.A. in a small house on Carolina Avenue, was later supported by CarePartners (owned by Mission Health) from 2012-2019 and is a crucial service offered to adults ages 18 and up who experience impairment and need supervision or a structured environment.
Transylvania Adult Day is now operated by MountainCare, which offers adult care, grief support and other services in western North Carolina
