The city approved two major construction projects; both required density variances to fit more people on undersized properties. One of the projects is a 160-room hotel in downtown Brevard and the other project is a mixed use development adjoining Deer Lake and the new car wash on Asheville Highway.
It’s obvious that 160 hotel rooms are likely to attract 160 automobiles. The Deer Lake development has the potential to attract 400 more automobiles. Based on the most recent census, that’s approximately a 15% to 20% increase in traffic. Lack of parking downtown already discourages our “s...
