Lake Toxaway Charities has awarded Augustine Literacy Project a grant to aid in training literacy tutors for students in Transylvania County. This is the third annual grant awarded to Augustine Literacy Project fromLake Toxaway Charities.

The mission of Lake Toxaway Charities is to support the charities, medical outreach and educators who work with and minister to the abused, disabled, indigent and those with special needs in Transylvania County. With these funds, Augustine Literacy Project will host its annual volunteer tutor training in September.

The mission of Augustine Literacy Project-Brevard is to improve the reading, writing, and spelling abilities of low-income students who struggle with literacy by training volunteer tutors who provide free, one-to-one literacy instruction. Students who are not reading proficiently by the end of third grade are four times more likely to not graduate high school (Annie E. Casey Foundation).
