If one doesn’t know the proper protocols, finding a baby bird, mammal or reptile seemingly stranded on the ground can trigger a feeling of helplessness.

However, the majority of found wildlife does not need human intervention.

Annalise Dietz, student intern at May Wildlife Rehabilitation Center within Lees-McRae College in Banner Elk, said, if found, determine whether or not the bird is hurt or sick, meaning, if it’s able to flutter its wings, if it’s bleeding, if it’s wings are drooping, or if it had been attacked by a cat or a dog.
