Cathey’s Creek Community Center

On Thursday evenings 7:30-9 p.m., the Cathey’s Creek Mountain Music Jam is happening at Cathey’s Creek Comm-unity Center. The pickers and singer are really having fun, and so are the tappers. Miss Dottie was dancing with the others last week; she still has it. Come out and enjoy a fun evening, with soft drinks, water, coffee and snacks available. There is no charge to come in. Donations are accepted. All funds are for the benefit of the community center. We want to thank everyone who comes out, and we hope you keep on coming and have a great evening.

In the Bible Mission

In the Bible Mission meets every Sunday morning at the Cathey’s Creek Community Center, with a singing and preaching service brought by the Rev. Pete Lee. Visitors are always welcome. Pete and Coleen are hosting a Bible study at their home on Thursdays. It is an interesting study of the Gospel of John.

Prayers for those who are in a nursing facility, home bound, sick or in the hospital. Prayers for the families who have family members who were in the building collapse in Florida.

Crafty Ladies

The Crafty Ladies will start meeting again at the Cathey’s Creek Community Center at 1 p.m., Monday, July 12. We hope everyone interested in crafting, knitting crocheting, etc. will join in.

The Window; July 4th Weekend

We saw a lot of fireworks over the 4th of July weekend. Lots of noise, too. On Saturday, my daughter and son-in-law took me with them to see the annual fireworks show at his fathers’ home. Their neighbor puts on the show, and there is the perfect vantage point to watch from their carport, and it was spectacular. If that wasn’t enough fireworks to watch, on Sunday evening we went to my granddaughter’s home, enjoyed a cookout, watched the kids swinging on a big swing tied up in a tree and stomp on ants that were biting them. The fireworks show that followed was just as spectacular as the first one. That is a whole lot for an “old lady,” but I enjoyed every minute.

A few days earlier, my neighbor, who has a Side-by-Side UTV, stopped by and the great-grands had to go for a ride. There was a lot of squealing and laughter; those kids really enjoyed the ride. Then, they said, ‘Can we ride again tomorrow?’ and, of course, she can back to take them out again.

History of

Cathey’s Creek

Please don’t give up on the book. It is still in the works. The going is somewhat slow now, but it still is going. Here is a little tidbit of history: The Cathey’s Creek Home Demonstrat-ion Club was organized at the community center in 1958, when officers were elected. At their meetings they would have workshops, demonstrating on things like cleaning house, pressure canning, decorating for Christmas. They would meet at different homes and were guest at other community clubs. Then, they would have social hour after the meetings and enjoy some delicious refreshments.
