Cottingham Prostate Cancer Support Group: 6:30 p.m. Fourth Monday of every month except November and December. Location: United Community Bank, Straus Park Branch, 1225 Asheville Highway in Brevard. Family Group Night for Families with Special Needs Children, 5:30-6 p.m. dinner, 6-7:30 p.m. meeting, the first Tuesday or second Monday of each month. Brevard Chapter of the Hearing Loss Association of America (HLAA), meet on the Second Saturday of every month except October at 1 p.m. Location: in the fellowship hall of the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd at 22 Fisher Road, directly across the street from the main entrance into Ingles Food Market. Learn about hearing loss and how to manage it, strategies that help people with hearing loss and their partners, assistive listening devices, and the laws and rights of those with hearing loss. NAMI Family Support Group, Family support is for caregivers, friends or family members of those who have a mental illness. Their group meetings are held on the first Tuesdays of each month at 7:30 p.m. The virtual meetings are as friendly and welcoming as the in-person meetings have been for many years. NAMI Connection Support Group, for individuals who have a mental illness, including those struggling with depression. NAMI support groups are peer-led. SAFE Women’s Support Group, meets every Monday 4:30-6 p.m. at SAFE’s office, 515 N. Broad Street, Suite 1, in Brevard. (in the building between Creekside Subs and Burger King). Smart Recovery Support Group: Every Tuesday of every week, 6-7:30 p.m. Meetings held in the Unitarian Universalist building located across from the Cardinal Drive-In, 24 Varsity St. in Brevard. Smart Recovery is a science-based addiction support group where people learn self-empowering skills and support each other in their recovery. Smart Recovery has been developed to overcome all types of addictions. Group members use tools based on scientifically tested methods for addiction recovery, such as Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing. Weight Loss Group - for pre-post-and non-surgical weight loss, meet the second Tuesday of each month from 9:30-11 a.m. and the third Monday of each month from 6:30-8 p.m. Meetings will be held at St. Philip’s Church, 256 E. Widowed Person Support of WNC, The location for these sessions is First United Methodist Church, 325 N. Broad St. in Brevard. Sessions are open to anyone who has been widowed, with no regard to religious affiliation, race, age, sexual preference, or economic status. There is no charge to attend.
