'Gaslighting' Defined

The term “gaslighting” originated in a 1938 stage play in which a husband attempted to convince his wife she is insane by manipulating small elements of their environment and repeatedly insisting that she was mistaken when she commented on the changes he had made.

It is a form of psychological abuse in use today, where a person or group seeks to erode another person’s reality by telling them that what they are experiencing, isn’t really so. We are all being “gaslighted.”
