WWII Veterans Receive Prayer Shawls

Sacred Heart Parish Ladies' Guild Knitter Maggie DiRocco, standing, recently presented hand-knit prayer shawls to WWII veterans Dorothy Managan, Myrl Jean Hughes and George Sarros.

Knitters with the Sacred Heart Catholic Church Ladies' Guild recently made warm, comforting and colorful prayer shawls, which were presented to three local World War II veterans.

On July 21, guild member Maggie DiRocco presented the shawls just prior to the "Little-Known Facts About World War II" program sponsored by the Veterans History Museum of the Carolinas and presented by recent Brevard College History major Sam Hipp.

The Ladies' Guild of Sacred Heart Church has 97 members, and 15 of them knit prayer shawls. The ministry began when a church member was injured in a car accident and...
