Brevard High School (BHS) Athletic Director David Galloway announced Monday the BHS football program would be suspended for five days following possible close contact with a COVID-19 exposure last week.

The scheduled scrimm-age today between BHS and East Henderson was canceled, and Galloway said there were no plans at this time to have a makeup game. Also, photos that were scheduled to be taken Wednesday for the Brevard varsity and junior varsity football teams were postponed until further notice.

School Superintendent Jeff McDaris was contacted for comment.

“Due to a possible close contact last week, members of the football team at Brevard High School, Rosman High School and Brevard Middle School were tested by school nurses at the end of the week,” he said. “All came back negative, however, one player did show some signs over the weekend and was re-tested early on Monday. The player is doing fine, but the test came back positive. “At this time it cannot be determined if he had contact and developed this as a result of being at school or over the weekend, elsewhere. Per rules of close contact and contact tracing, the team cannot practice for five days. Ironically, we were also notified by East Henderson that they have a similar situation.”
